G-Research Workshop on Quantitative Finance Careers

March 28, 2014  (Registration Deadline: March 25, 2014)

G-Research will be holding an interactive workshop on Careers in Quantitative Finance/Modelling Research on Friday, 28th March, 2014, at 2 pm in the centre of Munich (venue to be announced).

About the Fund

At G-Research we research ideas for algorithmic investment strategies to predict price movements in financial markets across multiple asset classes. We also develop the research and execution platform to trade these strategies globally. A fundamental change in finance in the last few decades is the on-going exponential growth in the amount of available data. Our researchers develop algorithmic trading strategies by finding patterns in large, noisy and rapidly changing real-world data sets, trying to extract underlying causes and effects. They apply scientific methods from diverse disciplines including Bayesian statistics, signal processing and machine learning and all have first-class academic backgrounds in Maths, Physics, Computer Science or Engineering with many having come directly from PhDs or postdocs.

Workshop Agenda

This workshop will be a discussion of some of the mathematical issues involved in portfolio construction. You will have the opportunity to consider one or more open-ended investment problems and come up with your own, mathematically based trading strategies. We will then run them competitively against each other for the chance of a prize!

The workshop will be run by one of our senior Quantitative Researchers, who completed his PhD at Cambridge University and then joined us from his position as a Royal Society University Research Fellow.

No prior knowledge of finance is necessary, but some familiarity with the very basic terminology of investment and risk management would be beneficial.

The Fund is particularly keen on exceptional mathematicians from a variety of disciplines [for example: Mathematics / Statistics / Physics], with a research interest in one or more of the following: Probability Theory, Regression Analysis, Time Series Analysis, Portfolio Management / Optimization, Financial Mathematics etc.

There will also be an opportunity for attendees to showcase their mathematical ability in the form of a test, potentially leading to a full time position as Quantitative Analyst within the Fund.

If you would be interested in attending this event, please send across a copy of your CV [including grades] as soon as possible to The deadline for all applications is Tuesday, 25th March, 2014. Please note, spaces are limited and applications are treated on a first-come-first-served basis.

If you are interested in hearing more about G-Research or our Quantitative Analyst positions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
